Since February 2026, spielmit.eu has been live — a free platform that helps parents coordinate playdates for their children. In this article, I share how the idea was born, what the platform can do, and why I believe playdates deserve a dedicated tool.
The Idea
It all started with a question my daughter asked me nearly every day: "Dad, can I play with someone today?"
The answer was never simple. It depended on whether we had the afternoon free, whether the parents of her desired playmate were reachable, whether anyone was available at all — and whether I could find the right person across three different WhatsApp groups without wading through 47 messages about lantern parades and birthday cakes.
At some point, I thought: There has to be an easier way. Not with yet another WhatsApp group. Not with a family calendar that doesn't know other families' availability. But with something built for this one specific purpose.
What spielmit.eu Can Do
The platform is intentionally simple. No feature overload, no complicated settings — just what parents actually need:
Private Play Groups — Create a group for your daycare class, neighborhood, or circle of friends. Access is by personal invitation link only.
Child Profiles with Emoji Avatars — Each child gets a profile with their first name, age, and interests. Instead of a photo, they get an emoji avatar — privacy by design.
Weekly Availability Schedule — Parents enter when their child is free in the afternoons. Other families in the group can see this at a glance — without having to ask first.
One-Click Playdates — In the playmate finder, you can see which children are free and when. One click on a matching time slot opens the playdate dialog.
Quick Requests — "Who's free to play today?" Send it to the whole group with a single tap. Whoever responds first gets the playdate.
Family Access — Both parents share the same family profile. All children, playdates, and messages are shared.
QR Code Play Cards — Each child can print a personal play card with a QR code. When another child scans the code, a private connection is created — no need to exchange phone numbers.

Why Is It Free?
spielmit.eu is not a startup. There are no investors, no business model, no hidden costs. The platform was created because I needed a solution for a real problem myself — and because I had the skills to build it.
Since my own daughter uses the platform, privacy and data protection aren't abstract promises — they're the foundation of every decision. No children's photos, servers in Frankfurt, no tracking, no selling of data.
spielmit.eu is made available to the community for free — today and in the future.
The First Release
The first version of spielmit.eu has been online since February 24, 2026, and is available as an Android app on the Google Play Store. On iPhone and iPad, the app can be installed as a Progressive Web App (PWA) directly through Safari.
